FaxOnline: building around the person who needs to send one fax
A browser-based fax service organized around an occasional task.
Sometimes someone needs to send a fax and then get on with their day.
FaxOnline is built around that occasional task. Its public workflow describes entering the recipient details, uploading a document, paying once, and receiving delivery status by email. It offers the send flow without an account or a monthly subscription.
Submitted is a beginning.
Play out a successful delivery, a retry, or a failed attempt.
The task has an end
The shape of the product is useful to look at: a person arrives with a document and a destination. The service has to make the steps understandable and tell them what happened afterward.
Delivery status matters to that experience. Uploading a file is not the same as knowing whether the recipient received the fax. The current site makes email updates part of the workflow.
There is plenty of product work inside a seemingly small transaction. File handling, recipient details, payment, and the final status all need to make sense to someone who may use the service only once.
That specific use case gives this project a clear story to tell.
