Over the last few weeks we had the fantastic opportunity to work with the crew over at Palisade Systems – a data loss prevention company here in Des Moines, IA – on a blog for their new product called ComplianceSafe.
ComplianceSafe is an innovative product for small businesses to protect information and data leaks via email.
We had a few goals for their WordPress blog …
- Launch Quick
- Skin WordPress like their product site
- Simple, Clean, and Neat

First off, congratulations on the job. The theme is pretty close to seamless with the rest of the site.
I asked this on twitter, but never heard back so I'll ask again, and rephrase it since I have more than 140 characters.
As a proponent of using wordpress as not just a blogging platform, but also a full fledged CMS, I wondered what the reasoning was for not developing the whole site in wordpress.
Looking at each page I really just don't see anything beyond simple text and images other than the product demo video that launches in a lightbox style popup. All of that could be handled in WP, and it would have taken care of the tiny bit of lack of seamless experience that the current bolted on blog has.
I've worked with clients that already had a site developed and just wanted to add on a blog so I know that sometimes you just have to do it. I just wanted to see if you could share a bit of that decision making process for others that are in a similar boat.

Thanks for checking it out!
Excellent question however it's not one I can fully answer on behalf of the client. However, I will try…
The product is a web application (SaaS) so that is the primary reason it lives outside WordPress. Everything from signup to payment processing is all built into their web app. I have baked applications inside WP but in this case I don't think that would have provided any added value. However the marketing pages could have lived on WordPress and directed users to the web application when they chose to sign up.
So there are basically two reasons… The web app needs to live on it's own … and it was already developed before they had the need for the blog – which is why we bolted that on.
I'd also toss out security as a reason not to have this on WordPress – it is a data loss prevention product that should have its own security and data storage separate from an open source (and commonly attacked) platform.
Hopefully that answers your question!

Nice job on the implementation for ComplianceSafe. It definitely looks sharp and it fits in perfectly with the rest of the site. This is typically my favorite type of WordPress installation, simply because you can work within the existing confines of a website's design and give the owner the superior flexibility of a publishing platform like WordPress.
Great work pulling the pieces together and getting the ComplianceSafe team up and running!

Thanks Mike! We\’ve been doing a lot of these kinds of projects lately. Many people want to implement WordPress alongside an existing website… We can just skin them to look seamless! Got another one coming this week too…
